A book that you did not like at first then appreciate Essay

A book that you didn't care for from the start at that point acknowledge - Essay Example As a major aspect of British Literature class, all understudies needed to peruse Wilde’s book throughout the mid year meeting. I had basically built up a negative demeanor towards the book in the wake of perusing the prelude, which condemns the book as being unethical. The prelude likewise succinctly presents the convictions of Wilde’s reasoning of craftsmanship, which is dedicated to the aestheticism way of thinking. Be that as it may, I needed to peruse the book since it as suggested by the school for the late spring occasion. The book was intended to cause use to gain proficiency with a real existence exercise; it was additionally a task from school on the grounds that in spite of drawing out the character of Dorian the book was intended to help use in English learning as it depicted, various topics and styles of composing. The book depends on Dorian Gray, who, is the subject of a protracted picture by Basil Hallward. Basil Hallward is dazzled and beguiled by the magnificence of Dorian that he imagines that he is responsible for the new mode in his craft as a painter. Subsequent to meeting Lord Henry Wotton, Dorian is excited by the honorable debased perspective, where he feels that sexy satisfaction and excellence are the main things that an individual should seek after throughout everyday life. Since Dorian knows, that excellence will blur with time he sets out to offer his spirit to guarantee that lone his image will age and not him. Basil awards Dorian his desire, and he seeks after all the common joy by doing distinctive improper things. He doesn't age even a solitary day, yet his representation records everything that is in him adulterating sin. In the principal case, when he chooses to proceed to see his image he finds that the image bears an unobtrusive smile of remorselessness. The grin of savagery shows up in the image after his heartbreaks Sibyl a young lady she goes gaga for after she sees her act in the theater. Dorian seeks after his common joys, yet understands that they are not benefiting him in any way and goes to accommodate

An Explication of Beowulf’s Monologue About His Past

Katie Taylor EH 215 Volf 4 February 2013 Beowulf’s Past Beowulf is an epic sonnet that is loaded up with scenes and deviations that give a superior comprehension of the sonnet overall. In one of the scenes, Beowulf talks about his past, and the peruser can find out about his childhood as a kid and how it has influenced him as a grown-up. This monolog likewise gives some data about King Hrethel and his children. The fundamental motivation behind this tale, be that as it may, is to portray how and when Beowulf started his profession of battle and fame.Within Beowulf’s monolog, the creator uses similar sounding word usages and kenning to enable the sonnet to stream and to underline the quality and valor of Beowulf as an epic saint. One such model is the kenning utilized toward the start of the scene. It peruses, â€Å"Beowulf, child of Ecgtheow, spoke†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (2425). Rather than the expressing perusing â€Å"Beowulf spoke,† this expression adds energy to the start. It strengthens the possibility that Beowulf is viewed as an incredibly amazing legend that can take on whatever comes his way rather than â€Å"just Beowulf. On the off chance that â€Å"son of Ecgtheow† were not utilized, Beowulf would appear to be practically exhausting contrasted with the eminent, courageous picture that strikes a chord when this expression is utilized. Similar sounding word usage is additionally used to permit the sonnet to stream and furthermore to give an intriguing component to in any case insipid sentences. â€Å"While I was in his ward he rewarded me no more awful as a wean†¦Ã¢â‚¬ is alluding to King Hrethel’s â€Å"adoption† of Beowulf after his dad kicked the bucket (2432).The reiteration of the W sound permits simple development through the story that Beowulf tells, and it keeps the peruser inspired by what is being said. Another case of similar sounding word usage is the lines 2479-2480: â€Å"My own friends and rel atives retaliated for these underhanded occasions, as everyone knows†¦Ã¢â‚¬ Without any stable redundancy, the peruser would get exhausted with the story, however the creator deliberately puts these instances of similar sounding word usage in the epic to give all the more energizing subtleties. Alongside these explanatory gadgets, this entry gives noteworthy subtleties session Beowulf’s childhood. The peruser discovers that Beowulf’s father Ecgtheow passes on when Beowulf is just seven years of age. Lord Hrethel takes him in, however, and treats him like one of his own children. Afterward, the king’s most seasoned child Herebeald is coincidentally executed by his more youthful sibling Haethcyn. Lord Hrethel is discouraged to such an extent that he set down and kicks the bucket from sorrow. A short time later, there is a fight between the Swedes and the Geats, wherein Hrethel’s child Haethcyn, the new ruler, is killed in battle.Hygelac, the last chi ld of Hrethel and now the new lord of the Geats, gave Beowulf fortune and land for battling nearby them. This fight is by all accounts one of the main that Beowulf took an interest in. He says, â€Å"I walked in front of him [Hygelac], consistently there at the front of the line; and I will battle like that for whatever length of time that I live†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (2497-2499). After that first fight, Beowulf propelled himself into an existence of war and popularity, continually desiring the acknowledgment and fortunes that came after a fruitful fight or killing.Beowulf’s monolog about his past permits perusers into his psyche with the goal that they can comprehend why he battles the manner in which he does and where he originated from in any case. Without this scene, the sonnet all in all would endure in light of the fact that there would be no back story to disclose Beowulf’s want to crush beasts and accomplish the acclaim that he thinks he merits. Maybe he is compensati ng for the way that his dad passed on when he was so youthful: he is attempting to carry on with a real existence that would make his dad pleased that Beowulf was his child.

7 Poor Parking Signs

7 Poor Parking Signs 7 Poor Parking Signs 7 Poor Parking Signs By Mark Nichol I’m inured to incompetently communicated messages on stopping signs, yet the signage imitated here prompts a tagging binge by the spelling police. What, precisely, is a low-emmiting, fuel-efficent vehicle would it be able to leave there if it’s magn-efficent? furthermore, how would you know whether you have one? This sign should peruse â€Å"Low-Emitting, Fuel-Efficient Vehicle Parking Only.† Sign creators in the United Kingdom are so obliging! They remorseful that they should burden you by advising you that this stopping territory is inadmissible for HGV’s. (As it were †to interpret for Americans don’t park your semi here, pal.) That’s an enchanting sign, however a punctuation and a s signals ownership; a s alone demonstrates a plural, and that’s what â€Å"HGVs† is. Consequently, the message welcomes the inquiry, â€Å"Unsuitable for HGV’s what? What's more, who is HGV?† That’s soothing to realize that none clients I surmise that implies â€Å"no customers† will be towed away. (Here and there, after I feast at a Mexican eatery, I have a feeling that I should be towed away or, even better, lifted onto a flatbed truck.) Oh, I get it now: noncustomers. What truly secures this disappointment of a sign is the unwarranted period after away, and the subsequent part that follows. What’s a privae, and how can one park it (or them, as the Latin plural extremity - ae appears to demonstrate)? How sort of the sign producer, incidentally, to abstain from occupying all that room on the ends of the week with an armada of privas. Here, two possessive things are rendered wrongly in various manners: They should peruse Golfers’ and Rafters’ (except if, obviously, the sign is focusing on a solitary beam). Customer’s just what? We expect better of a dynamic global supermarket chain. (What's more, â€Å"1 hour parking†? I realize that business promoting is antagonistic to hyphenation that is maybe the most omnipresent signage mistake however, does Whole Foods Market must be as reckless as each other shipper?) You needed to see this one coming: also called privates stopping. (Passageway on Whitley, printing by Witless.) Nelson Goodmanss New Riddle Of Induction Term Paper

Nelson Goodmanss New Riddle Of Induction - Term Paper Example The conventional issue of enlistment was advanced by David Hume and it reamined very customary until Nelson Goodman proposed another issue which he called â€Å"the new conundrum of induction† as communicated in the third part of Fact, Fiction and Forecast. By the new conundrum of acceptance Goodman set forward a case that not all speculations are affirmed by their occasions. At the end of the day â€Å"confirmation of a speculation by an occasion depends preferably intensely upon the highlights of the theory other over its syntatical form† (72). He recognized the lawlike (that a given bit of copper conducts power expands the validity of the announcement declaring that different bits of copper conducts power, and hence affirms the speculation that all copper conducts power) and unplanned (that a given man now in this room is a third child doesn't build the believability of the announcement attesting that other men now in this room are third children thus doesn't affirm the theory that all men now in this room are third children) articulations. However, both are cases in which the speculation is a speculation of the apparent explanation. Subsequently, Goodman contended: â€Å"only an explanation that is lawlike †paying littl e heed to its fact or lie or its logical significance †is equipped for recieviing affirmation from a case of it; unplanned articulations are not† (73). In that capacity, there is requirement for a method of clearly recognizing the lawlike from the inadvertent explanations. Notwithstanding, the issue of enlistment goes past only attempting to prohibit a couple of cases that are conceded by our meaning of affirmation. Henceforth, Goodman proposed another predicate, â€Å"grue.†

An Experiment in Independence PART TWO.

An Experiment in Independence PART TWO. Happy Friday! Its now about halfway through IAP, Independent Activities Period, Period of Independence and Activity-Doing! Ive lived here in Maryland for about two weeks now, all by myself, working this NASA internship, and I must say its been quite an adventure. Ive settled into a schedule here, working a nine-to-five job, and learning a lotI definitely know a lot more about stepper motors, C, and MATLAB than I did two weeks ago. Its awesome. Nevertheless, you do get a little bored living by yourself, so I decided to try out something new tonight while making dinner. And that was to film it. On video. And put it on the internet. Whether that means that Im very shameless or just very stupid remains to be seen. Maybe I need more people to talk to. In any case, that video is now online and below for your general reference and watching amusement, because I basically have zero kitchen skills whatsoever. I also have no video editing software whatsoever and filmed this on a handheld cell phone, so I apologize in advance for any bad videography/sound quality/general sloppiness. Its my first time. Please dont judge me too hard? :) EDIT. Ive received some feedback about people related to some of the things I mentioned in the video who stated they were uncomfortable with it being online. I sincerely apologize for any discomfort Ive caused anyone, and Ive removed the video for that reason. Sorry for the inconvenience! Please check out the picture of dinner below and the links, and I hope to be back with more videos in the future :) Heres the final dinner sitting in front of me right now! And trust me, its delicious. Maybe more so because cooking dinner myself makes me about ten times hungrier. And here are some links to things I mentioned in the video! All about the James Webb Space Telescope, the successor to Hubble Dryden Flight Research Center being renamed after Neil Armstrong Concurrent Engineering and the Instrument Design Lab The Gym Workout Routine Without A Gym (from r/bodyweightfitness) Definitely let me know what you guys thought about the video. Good? Bad? Positively horrible? Waaaaay too long? (I feel youI definitely got a little carried away there. Time flies when youre talking to a camera, I guess.) Should I do it again? You decide! And if you have any cooking tips/suggestions/lifehacks/ways-to-not-be-clueless-in-a-kitchen, leave those below in the comments and Id be eternally grateful :) Yours, Allan

Important Acts for Americans with Disabilities and Immigration Reform - Free Essay Example

American with disabilities struggled to fit into society before the 1990s. Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act. Of 1973, banned any discrimination toward any person because of race, ethnicity, and/or sexual based, but it didnt specifically speak for Americans with disabilities in particular (Mayerson, 1992). It wasnt until almost 17 years later that the American Disabilities Act (or ADA) became a law in 1990 (Thompson, 2015). This Act marked one of the first civil rights laws that addressed the needs of people in American with disabilities. According to Thompson, author for the JAMA Network, more that 50 million Americans with disabilities in American that are protected under this law (Thompson, 2015). The ADA prohibits discrimination in all areas of like that pertain to public such as employment, education, transportation needs and any area that is open to the general public. The ADA recognizes a disability defined as a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits 1 or more major life activities, such as walking, talking, and caring for oneself independently. This law was put into place to protect people with any of these types of impairments and give them resources for quality of life. Before the ADA became a law, people that had disabilities throughout American were being excluded and segregated from their communities. Unfortunately, the mentality for people with disabilities was that they should be institutionalized or taken out of general public. It took several people throughout time to achieve this law to protect the disabled in America. With this law, Americans with disabilities were given resources such as handy-cap parking close to public buildings and other accessibility standards, equal medical care, community service aids and employment. The ADA enables people with disabilities to live their lives with pursuit of happiness and activity without the barriers of being shunned by their communities and government. Immigration Reform Control Act (or IRCA) of 1986 became a law in order to reduce financial burden of providing public assistance, including health care, and educational services to non-citizens in the United States. This act was also referred to as the 1986 Amnesty Act. This act made it illegal for employers to hire any person that was determined as an illegal or unauthorized immigrant. Before this law was initiated, several unauthorized immigrants were able to apply and accept legal status in the United States. Anyone that had done this before 1986 was granted amnesty, hence the name, and were allowed to stay if they had obtained documentation prior to the 1986 IRCA. Under IRCA, eligible legalized aliens may apply for permanent residency within a 1-year period after they are first eligible (Kusserow, 1990, p. 1). This act promotes assistance for people under this act be assisted with State public assistance just like any other person, with the understanding that no new programs be initiated specifically for this minority. The State may create or initiate any program to promote educational needs for eligible legalized people. Practices much like this were seen as good practice. The government conceded in organizing four categories of good practice to augment implementation of these programs and procedures under the IRCA. These four categories include guidelines for administration, systems to identify eligible legalized aliens, controls for distribution of funds, and innovated approaches to education (Kusserow, 1990). Identifying eligible legalized aliens consists of a working group for resolving issues, making sure that general services are available, and keeping accurate reporting systems while keeping a contact point that is of neutral party (Kusserow, 1990). Systems to identify eligible legalized aliens defines the use of identification numbers given to verify eligibility. Recording keeping data of ensure that people under this act have communication resources when needed. Keeping controls of distribution of funds enforces a financial threshold for eligible legalized aliens during a certain period of time, while having an automated system of disbursement of funds to each eligible person, and keeping effective communication between State agencies and operating agencies (Kusserow, 1990). Lastly, education is seen as an opportunity for these minority people to become educated, lawful permanent citizens (Kusserow, 1990). Programs designed to continue education and to provide opportunities for these individuals were put in place in attempt to help facilitate employment chances and educational chances. People rally for minorities such as Americans with disabilities and immigration reform to help achieve a better life for everyone. The importance of the laws may not seem to affect us all but they do. The United States is often referred to as the land of the free. It is this way because of people that are passion about causes such as these and are willing to fight for them to be seen under the governments eye. Because of these people that refused to be silenced, protective laws have been put in place for both.

Paper 2: The effects of the Great Depression By: Christa Dorvil Paper 2: The effects of the Great Depression By: Christa Dorvil Modern World History Instructed by Dr. Stephanie Laffer Miami International University of Art and Design Abstract Never had the flaws of capitalism been so evident or as devastating as during the decade that followed the outbreak of the Great Depression in 1929. All across the Euro-American heartland of capitalist world, this vaunted economy system seemed to unravel. This only deteriorated as businesses would suffer financially and unemployment was at an all the time high. Although President Franklin D. Roosevelt came up w ith tactics and strategies to lessen the effects of the damage done, the economy wouldn’t fully overcome until after 1939 as World War II shifted America. For a little over a decade, businesses would go through financial turmoil and people would have to find other ways to bring in revenue. During the late summer of the 1929, the American economy entered into a recession. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, a recession is defined as a period of reduced economic activity. Investors had traded some 16 million shares on the New York Stock Exchange in a single day. That day in history was formally known as â€Å"Black Tuesday†. Those same shares had ended up being worthless with no monetary value. The investors who bought them with borrowed money, suffered an excessive lost. Consumer reliability was gone as spending was nonexistent which resulted in factories being closed down. The lack of consumerism also impacted

Abortion Pros And Cons Essay - 1964 Words

What is an abortion some may ask, another question that pops up just as often if not more frequently is why would anyone do that to their unborn child? An abortion in legal terms means, according to Merriam Webster dictionary, the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus. Many times, a parent doesn’t feel as though adoption is the right decision to make because then they risk the chance of growing a bond with their child during their pregnancy. So, they often feel abortion is the way to go without considering the hardship they will face after that decision has been made. Discuss the relationship between accountability, risk management and user-centered care Free Essays

For the purpose of this TMA, I intend to look at how the use of risk management may assist and hinder practitioners accountability within the community mental health team I work in, to explore how risk management assists and hinders the relationship between social workers, employers and service users. Within the CMHT risk management is based upon guidance in Clinical Governance which states â€Å"Anticipate and prevent potential problems to learn from critical incidents and complaints and to provide systems to help clinical staff to reflect and develop their practice.† (RCN, 1998 Book 1, Chapter 9, p. Risk assessments within the team are seen as positive tools that enable good communication between the social worker and patient. The assessment provides a basis from which a plan can be formulated to protect the patient from risk but also to extend the barriers of risk in a planned way, enabling the patient to explore and develop new coping strategies empowering them to cope with their mental illness. In these situations there is a balance to be drawn between patient’s safety and autonomy. There is however another side to the risk management processes in that practitioner’s feel â€Å"You’ve got to watch your step and cover your back! Document everything! Make sure you follow the guidelines and you keep the patient’s safe! That’s the bottom line – you’ve got to be safe. (L.Finlay, personal communication, 12 March 1999 Book 1, Chapter 9, p.187). It is this fear of punitive action that dissuades practitioners from exposing service users to avoidable risks, and risk assessments are viewed as documents providing good evidence of assessments to be accessed if ever there were questions about the care of the patient. The British Association of Social Workers gives guidelines for social workers accountability. For the purpose of this TMA accountability can be defined as â€Å"to be in a position to give an explanation for one’s actions – with reasons and justifications.† How to cite Discuss the relationship between accountability, risk management and user-centered care, Papers

Cost benefit free essay sample

In terms of advertising, the dollar value of a baseball team to a city is between $2 million and $5 million per year (Baade and Dye 1988). In addition, it is difficult to separate spending displaced by the stadium versus new spending induced by the stadium in determining the local economic impact of the stadium. Stadium costs can be broken down into annual fixed costs, such as interest and debt amortization, and variable costs, such as utilities and refuse collection. In 1971, the annual total cost of operating a stadium ranged from $1. 3 million to $2. 3 million per year. Okner (1974) estimated that in 1971, the city received between $452,000 and $1. 8 million a year from the stadium rental, which covers the stadiums 241 variable costs. Because the construction cost of a stadium can exceed $3,000 a seat, most cities finance new stadium construction by increasing either sales taxes, hotel taxes, or sin taxes (Okner 1974; Kraul 1993). The indirect stadium subsidies include the foregone tax receipts because of the tax-exempt status of stadiums and the site taxes. We will write a custom essay sample on Cost benefit or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The latter arises because businesses that would have located on the stadium site and paid taxes cannot do so because of the stadium. The dollar value of the welfare gain generated by the stadium is an important benefit left unexamined in the literature. If there is a difference between a persons willingness to pay for a ticket to a sporting event and the actual price paid for the ticket, then a positive amount of consumer surplus is generated. Aggregated over all sports fans in the city, this is the total net consumer surplus of the stadium to the city. This represents a benefit of a stadium that has not been explicitly considered in prior studies. THE MODEL To motivate the discussion of the results, consider a city that subsidizes a stadium for ts baseball team. Once the stadium has been built, the average cost of holding an event declines with attendance, and the annual average cost of stadium events declines with the number of events held in the stadium. These effects are primarily due to the amortization of the fixed cost over attendance and the number of events in the stadium. Further, there is some evidence that stadium services such as trash removal, concessions, and ushering operate with economies of scale from attendance at events (Baim 1988). The stadium is rented to a sports franchise, which acts as a monopolist in setting the ticket prices. The franchise sets the ticket prices to extract as much rent as it can from the sports fans. In spite of this, some uncaptured rents accrue to the fans. These uncaptured rents are the net consumer surplus, which is the ditterence between what event versus what the fan actually pays. Figure 1 illustrates the sports tan would be willing to pay tor a sporting the problem. The demand curve for baseball is assumed to be characterized as a linear demand curve both games 242 Figure 1: The Demand for Baseball for illustrative purposes and simplicity. 2 The sports franchise tries to maximizes its profits when setting the ticket price (P*). The area above the equilibrium ticket price and bounded by the linear demand curve is the consumer surplus. Because P* and Q* are the only observed prices and quantities, the upper-ticket price (P) will have to be estimated. This will allow me to calculate the consumer surplus. 243 Ideally, the Hicksian demand curve should be used to calculate the compensating or equivalent variation measures of welfare gains or losses instead of the Marshallian demand curve. However, Willig (1976) and Hausman (1981) suggest methods by which one could calculate the compensating or the equivalent variation from an estimated Marshallian demand curve.

This essay critically evaluates the reasons of labour turnover problem in an organization. The understanding of reasons behind labour turnover will help students in their future career path. Students would be able to use their theoretical understanding about reasons of labour turnover situation in company. Along with this, the essay focuses on providing different recommendations for resolving the selected problem. For this purpose, different theories of motivation have been selected in essay for review. This review and analysis would help to know importance of motivation in satisfaction of employees with their job and organization. It would also facilitate theoretical knowledge among students about how the motivation of employees can be enhanced. Critical Analysis: Critically evaluate reasons for labour turnover. Job dissatisfaction is a major cause of labor turnover problem in companies. Job dissatisfaction is the unfavorable emotional reaction of the labor towards their particular job. It is stated that if an employee gets low actual outputs as compared to their expected desires then, they leave the job due to the unsatisfied job. Moreover, lack of pay packages, incentives, recognition and fringe benefits, lack of career opportunities and ineffective working conditions affect the job satisfaction of the employees (Khan and Aleem, 2014). As a result, employees leave the job from the organization. It is very difficult for organizations to identify exact expectations of employees. Along with this, it is also difficult to meet every expectation and desire of man-power. Organizations also focus on fulfilling monetary needs of its employees. But, if they fail to recognize and fulfill non-monetary needs of their staff, they are likely to face labor turnover problems. Lack of organizational commitment is another reason of labor turnover, because the organization does not involve their employees in the organizational activities and decision making. Moreover, it does not recognize their employees within the organization. Further, the organization provides negative feedback to their employees. In such cases, employees leave their job due to getting the unfavorable comment, lack of involvement and participation within the organization (Mowday, et al., 2013). Additionally, rude behavior, back-biting, assigning blame and retaliation have an adverse impact on labor turnover. But at the same time, if organization fails to give appropriate feedback to employees according to their performance, it may face reduction in staff productivity. For this reason, the negative feedback is also very important. But the way of communication of performance issues can be improved by organizations for addressing labor turnover issues. Inappropriate employee recruitment is also a major cause of labor turnover. For example, sometimes, organization hire those employees who are not eligible for this job hence, they unable to adjust to the culture and also unable to meet the goals of the organization (Powell, 2012). As a result, they will leave the job due to lack of understanding about the organization. It is mandatory for organizations to strictly follow the recruitment process and to ignore referral based selection of staff. Such types of recruitments also lead to hiring of wrong candidate. Lack of training is another reason for labor turnover. It is explained that if a manager does not provide proper training to its employees then, they will unable to perform work efficiently. They get disinterested due to lack of knowledge about work (Khan and Aleem, 2014). In such case, they leave the job from the organization. Such types of problems are not only responsible for employee turnover, but it can also lead to accidental incidents at workplace. Another reason for labor turnover is organizational instability. Some organizations constantly focus on reorganizing, changing directions and re-shuffling of employees. In this case, staff gets disconnected from the main purpose of organization. Further, they dont understand that what is going on and what is the main concern of the organization (AlBattat and Som, 2013). As a result, it will lead to confusion and increase inefficiency among the labor. Due to instability of organization, the expertise of employees in doing certain job also gets weakened. This makes the employees to think to change company. The poor working condition also leads to labor turnover. It is stated that unsafe and hazardous working conditions negatively affect to employee performance and motivation. It discourages the employees towards their work within the organization (McQuerrey, 2012). Consequently, they will leave the job from this organization. On the other hand, if organization provides safe and healthy working conditions, it will enhance health and productivity of employees. The inappropriate relationship between the managers and employees is also a cause of labor turnover. It can be said that lack of coordination among the managers and employees declines the creativity and performance of employees (Powell, 2012). In addition to this, lack of coordination and support leads to limiting of ability and skills of staff. Hence, it creates dissatisfaction among the workers and they leave from the job. Apart from these, lack of growth opportunity in organization is also a major cause behind employees tendency to leave their job. It is because, employees look for a job and organization, where there is security of their job and appropriate growth opportunity. In absence of this factor, employees start to look for bigger organization, where they can grow with time. In this context, companies should facilitate proper hierarchy of job position and pay hike system associated with performance of employees and time factor (McQuerrey, 2012). This can contribute to reduction in labor turnover problems. But, for small organizations, this can be a challenging factor, as there is limited scope for creation of high profile positions. In such organizations, it can become difficult to retain skilled and experienced employees. Identify the advantages and the disadvantages of labour turnover One of the basic advantages of labor turnover is reduction in manpower costs. If an employee stays with the organization for a longer period of time, then the organizations has to pay that employee more than the other employees performing the same task but are new to organization (Davidson et al., 2010). This leads to excessive manpower cost to organization, which hampers the profitability of organization. Moreover, Labour turnover sometimes brings new ideas to organization, as it open gates for new talent possessing fresh and innovative ideas, which helps the organization to grow. Employee attrition provides space for risk taking calibre in the organization (Snell and Bohlander, 2010). On contrary to this, due to employee turnover, the performance of organization decreases. If an employee leaves the organization suddenly, then the organization faces various difficulties like very less or no time to train new employee, who is going to take over the job. This hampers the productivity of organization as all team members got affected. In addition to this, Labour turnover also affects customer relationship with the organization (Wu, 2012). Usually customer connects themselves with the employees and if those employees leave the organization, then it creates a doubt in the mind of customers about product quality. The other advantage of labor turnover is that it gives birth to higher performance of organization, because employees who are working from years used to start working at slow pace and this leads to slow growth and poor performance in the organization. On the other hand, new employees come with fresh talent. They work with greater enthusiasm and at a faster pace, which leads to satisfied client to organization and reduction in cost (Kucherov and Zavyalova, 2012). In addition to this, employees who are working from a long time generally started working against the organization from inside. When these employees leave organization, they do not cause any loss to organization. Other disadvantage of labor turnover is that it leads to increase in cost because of hiring of new employee. High attrition rate will lead to negative brand image of the organization. Labour turnover negatively impact employee development programs of organization (Gerhart and Fang 2014). These plans involve a huge cost and time. When an employee leaves the organization, the investment done by organization in his development got wasted. Sudden attrition also leads to interruption in daily task management. Conclusions and recommendations The satisfaction of employees needs and expectations is one of the ways to overcome labour turnover problem. As per Maslow theory of motivation, there are five types of needs that are necessary for every organization to fulfil such as physiological needs, Safety needs, love/ belongingness need, Self Esteem and the self-actualisation need (Fleetwood and Hesketh, 2010). The employees feel motivated to do work, when these needs are fulfilled. Successful fulfilment of needs will help in reduction of labour turnover issues (Stredwick, 2013). Managers of an organization can design compensation and benefit programs according to need hierarchy provided by this theory. To reduce the labour turnover, an organisation should make efforts for motivating the employees for good performance. Its the first step in an organization to motivate the employees and it should take concern of the individual needs of employees. Employees should be rewarded for their good performance at their job (Briscoe, Schuler and Tarique, 2012). The salary expectation should be fulfilled by organization. Safe working environment should be there for the employees. If an organisation fulfils the employees desires like salary structure, employee family benefits like trip for family etc, it will be effective to meet satisfaction of staff. Similar to this, timely promotion of the employee is also important enhance employee satisfaction and to overcome labour turnover issues in business (Kramar and Syed, 2012). At the same time, if management fails to meet these needs, it will face negative results in the form of lack of creativity at work, low morale, low job satisfaction and labour turnover issues. Mac Gregor theory X and Y is helpful to understand the nature of employees. Theory X provides that employees are lazy for the work and are irresponsible for the work. They are less ambitious. They are forced to do the work. They do not work willingly. They avoid the responsibilities. On the other hand, Theory Y believes that employees are not lazy to do the work. They enjoy doing the work (Machado and Davim, 2013). They accept the responsibility with an interest. They target their work. They are very creative and give innovative ideas for the beneficial of an organisation. They take their own decisions. Employees are self-motivated. Organization faces both the aspects of employees, provided by Theory X and Theory Y. The employees that come under Theory Y are already satisfied with their job and role. To improve theory X types of employees, motivation is necessary. Motivation is necessary to reduce the labour turnover from the organisations. As theory X types of employees should be motivated for their work this helps the employees to perform well in the organisations. This helps in doing the work with interest (Mathis et al., 2016). Getting rewards for their performance in the work will motivate them. If, they do not work properly they should be punished and with this fear of punishment, they can do the work properly. Herzbergs two-factor theory of motivation is also very important to find out ways to overcome labour turnover problem. As per this theory, it is necessary for organizations to effectively implement both hygiene factors and motivational factors. Companys failure to design hygiene factors in right manner can lead to dissatisfaction among employees. This invites the problem of labour turnover (Malik and Naeem, 2013). Example of hygiene involves pay, company policies and procedures, fringe benefits, working environment, status in organization, interpersonal relations, and job security. On the other hand, there are certain factors, the absence of which does not result into employee dissatisfaction. But involvement of these factors can stimulate motivation and performance of employees on job. Examples of these factors involve recognition, sense of achievement, growth and promotional opportunities, responsibility, and meaningfulness of work. But, most of times an employee that is satisfied with his job leaves the organization due to absence of motivational factors (Lee et al., 2014). It is true that investment in motivational factors can enhance business cost of organization, but it would offer long term benefits in business. Levine, Jake Essays - , Term Papers, Research Papers

Levine, Jake 2/6 /17 Respect for the Law " Built within the Constitution of the United States are specifically defined freedoms that are guaranteed to all citizens" (Jordan, 1999) . However, w ith every constitutional freedom there comes a great responsibility , such as time . Given an understanding of the importance of time and the decreasing nature of it , time commitment decisions are among the most important and challenging choices that someone must make. On September 25 , 1789, the state legislature proposed twelve amendments, which were later passed by congress. Th e first two deal t with the salary that the congress would receive and the amount involvement congress would have. The last ten amendments were established and accepted by all states as the Bill of Rights in 1751. The first amendment of the United States Constitution states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercises thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances". However, one must comprehend the numerous responsibilities that come with the freedom proposed in our constitution. When learning the way to correctly respect and not take advantage of your freedoms one must take time to understand the responsibilities at hand. I consider time to be a gift from God especially when understanding how to respect the traffic law s . My perception of time differs in various situations, however, not when understanding respect. I believe that time has a beginning and an end . Time, either too much, or more often not enough of, is the root of not obeying the traffic laws. Since time will not stop for you , I strive to use my time wisely. One day I will not be able to live as freely as I do currently , so I believe that it is important to make the most of what time I have when respecting the traffic laws provided for not only my safety, but rather the citizens that could have been affected by my poor decision making. I must respect the traffic law s , so I therefore, will be respecting what my life offers. When we wake up respect is always around . When we go to a restaurant there is respect. When we go to a school, there is respect. When you go to your family reunion, there is respect. These examples may not be noticeable , but that is only because you are taking them for granted each day . However, if you are not respectful, then you will not be respected, it is just that simple. So, you should always be respectful , whether on or off the roads as well as others so they will treat yo u with the same respect . When one abides by the traffic law s that shows respect for the law s and the safety if provides. On the other hand, if one is disrespectful toward the traffic law s , then there are repercussions, that one should accept without question. If one questions authority when they are guilty, it is disrespectful not only to the court of law, but the traffic law put in place for society's saf ety. Al though the first amendment states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech , or of the press," one should not question a punishment given by authority as it is more than likely deserved. Furthermore, one does not have control over the inevitable, therefore gives me a motive to convert my time into meaningful actions that benefit those around me. Though time may cycle, I will always learn from the mistakes I made and will continue to make, but the punishments I receive will be taken into consideration for further meaningful actions . Therefore, in the near future I would like to commit my time to making my personal life and society better . Throughout this process, I have thought deeper about how my academic in high school have been affected . With

Nichomean ethics book IV essays

Nichomean ethics book IV essays In book VII, Aristotle discusses pleasure and pain. Aristotle says a philosopher must study pleasure and pain since he is an architect of the end. Aristotle informs you that children and animals pursue pleasures. Pleasure is not a chief good because it is not an end, but a coming to be. I believe that Aristotle states that children and animals pursue pleasures because he believes there minds to be uneducated in knowing what the virtues of life are and they enjoy simple pleasures because they can not see nor comprehend the grand scheme of life. Pleasure is not a chief good because it does not follow the proper guidelines to be a chief good. Pleasure is a short-formed way for someone to feel happiness for a temporary amount of time. They may achieve this by doing a simple action and experiencing the good produced by such action. One may find walking down a scenic route pleasurable but, once the walk is over the pleasure experienced will also be gone where the chief good will leave you feeling well for an infinite and indefinite amount of time. It is also said that not all pleasures are good. I agree with this statement. If one likes to smoke and every time one smokes, the chemical reaction caused by ingestion of cigarette brings pleasure to him. Now, the action of smoking ultimately pleasures him but he is surely poisoning himself. In some societies is perceived as dirty to smoke while in previous decades it was a refined habit to perform. Aristotle points out that there is a relativity of pleasure to remedy the situation. So pleasures depending on what they are i.e. (smoking, drinking, promiscuity)used to aide in the dealing with pain may in turn be a crutch or vice taking one further from the chief good by clouding judgment and sense of well-being. So even though some pleasures are bad there is no reason why some should not prevent on from ...

My personal philosophy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words - 1

My personal philosophy - Essay Example This is why my biggest motivation and mission is to proudly offer nonjudgmental and unbiased care particularly to those in need regardless of their class in life, race, lifestyle choices, spirituality, disability and financial status. My philosophy therefore makes me understand that as a nurse I have a responsibility to my patients and must offer them with holistic, safe, patient-centered, round the clock care. In addition, it makes me bear in mind that patients under my care are not mere statistics, medical conditions or just room numbers but individuals that need and deserve personalized care and attention. Professionally, nurses are supposed to use clinical judgment so as to assist the requirements of their patients. Being an advocate, I am obligated to empower my patients by encouraging them to engage in active partnership as far as their individual care is concerned and participate in mutual setting of goals between patient and care providers. As a nurse I should maintain and uphold patient confidentiality with the exception of when the law mandates us to report as a duty. My philosophy also reminds me that I must constantly educate not only my patients but their families as well especially on treatments, healthy behaviors and diseases so as to enhance their outcomes. Lastly I am also obligated to strive to positively model healthy behaviours in my own life in the belief that I will offer better care to patients if I care for myself first. In conclusion, my philosophy enables me to be committed to keeping myself with the up to date skills and knowledge together with seeking self-enhancement via perpetual learning. This ensures that I do not remain in my belief but instead progress professionally via evidence-based technological and practice advances. My philosophy ensures that I will always keep on learning, not only from journals and textbooks but also from various interactions with my colleagues and involvement

Applied research methods - Essay Example The academic sources to be used for the business research process shall come from secondary sources of information such as scholarly articles and peer-reviewed journals. In order to understand the tools and techniques used by managers of successful organizations to keep their employees motivated to perform at the highest levels. Through these sources, we can obtain information on factors such as the importance of a leader’s perception in the mid of the employee, the role played by an organization’s culture and how it affects performance and the importance of having a vision that is clearly defined and well-understood by the leader himself so as to be able to communicate it to the employees and generate maximum commitment out of them. Secondary sources of information will therefore be very important to us for this research as it shall be the guiding light on which all our research methodology is based on will be the basis of developing the survey tools and criteria. Whilst using secondary sources of information might prove useful, we do realize it might present us with some challenges and affect the credibility of our report if proper care is not taken while researching. The information provided prove to be biased and might have been controlled to some extent by the marketer of the research. There is also the possibility that the information available through these sources might not fully adhere to our needs or might be incomplete. Our aim shall be to minimize the biases that may occur due to these problems and we aim to use a number of different articles and publications in order to verify the integrity of the information available and make this research as consistent as possible. We have also chosen to go with secondary academic sources because these sources tend to be very comprehensive in nature and will provide us with all the information we need to fulfill the objectives of the research. Secondly, the sources also happen to be peer reviewe d and evaluated, have been written by academics and certified by the best institutions, which is what adds to their credibility and ensures that the integrity of our own research will not be affected if our work includes such sources. (i) Non-fatal error Normally, error message can be shown on Monitor Screen such as error which can do boot set up continuously on the compute is graded as non-fatal error. (ii) Fatal error The error which cannot continue boot setup and entirely stops and make a series of beep-code sound. Depending on the BIOS, these short beep – code help the operator distinguish the fault affecting on which part of the machine. Task 2 Task-2(i) The most popular type of motherboards is AT-style motherboard and ATX-style motherboard. Advanced Technology (AT) :The older form factor standard derived from PC-XT and PC-AT specifications. Advanced Technology Extended (ATX): A newer form factor standard that has been introduced to overcome problems found in the AT-style designs. The main components of a motherboard are the CU and its chipset, the system clock, the ROM , BIOS, the RAM, the system bus with expansion slots, jumpers and DIP, power supply connections and communication ports like the serial, parallel, USB and infrared ports. Industry Standard Architecture (ISA) bus. This Architecture was originally used in the IBM PC/XT and PC/AT. It is a very old technology used for connecting peripheral device. Task 2 (ii) Advanced BIOS Features This category displays the amount of memory detected by the BIOS. The value of the base (or conventional)memory is typically 640K or more memory installed on the main board. The value of the extended memory is the amount of memory located above 1MB in the main board. Fig.1 Standard CMOS Features The Standard CMOS setup screens from various BIOS manufactures all provide the same basic information .They can be used to set the system clock/calendar, establish disk-drive parameters and video display type, and specify which types of errors will halt the system during the POST. Fig. 2 Task- 2 (iii) a Print technologies Impact technologies( Dot-matrix printer) Non- Impact technologies(ink-jet, Laser printer) Ink-jet printer An inkjet printer is a non-impact printer that uses droplets of ink to create image on the paper. Inkjet printer is popular for home user due to its ability to print color. It is cheaper than laser printer but expensive to maintain. Inkjet’s cartridges need to replace frequently and special coated paper is required for high quality photo out. Task-2(iii)b Common Printer Problems When a printer has been out of paper, or had a paper jam, or some other condition that keeps it from giving output for several minutes, the lpq command ceases to indicate the particular condition, and simply shows it as stalled(n sec), with n>>1000. So if you see this message, you need to go to the printer itself and find out what is wrong. On the other hand, when a condition has been corrected, the lpq command may continue to report the condition for about a minute more; so a warning like No paper tray when the paper has just been reloaded can usually be ignored. You can likewise ignore the warning No daemon present when a job has just been submitted after the queue was empty. Task3 Network cable A Network is a collection of computers linked to one another allowing information and resources to be shared between them. A network is setup by connecting the various computers through the cables, connectors and connectivity devices such as hubs or switches along with which necessary protocols for enable communication between them are implemented. Any computer can access a network directly by using a network adapter expansion card also known as Network Interface card(NIC) and a network cable. Types of cable are Coaxial cable: Contains a central wire which is insulated and on top of which there is a braided wire. Coaxial cables can carry more data and are less prone to interference. Plenum cable: Has an outer shield made of Teflon which is a fire repellant and which does not produce poisonous fumes when burnt. Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP)cable: Two cables and switched wires so that the noises of the two separate wire that are cover in a shield of foil, so that data transmission is safer. Connectors : Some Commonly connectors in a network Are: BNC, RJ-45,AUI, ST/SC and IDC/UDC. (ii) Five different technologies are 1. ASDL 2. Wi Max 3. IP Star 4. PSIN (dial up) 5. ISDN (digital) 1.ADSL Asymmetric DSL (ADSL) works by splitting the phone line into two frequency ranges. The frequencies below 4KHz are reserved for voice, and the range above that is used for data. This makes it possible to use the line for phone calls and data network access at the same time. This type of DSL is called asymmetric because more bandwidth is reserved for receiving data than for sending data. Asymmetric variations include ADSL standards facilitates interoperability between all standard forms of ADSL. Strengths The internet connection can remain open while the phone line is used for voice calls.DSL service employs phone wires between the home and the telephone switching center. Weakness ADSL works by splitting the phone line into two frequency ranges. The frequencies below 4 V Hz are reserved for voice, and the range above that is used for data.DSL service is not available in all locations. 2. Wi Max Wi Fi is used by wireless LANs. Strength : Mobile PC might be connected to printers, scanners or voice over IP headset. Laptop user would wirelessly connect to a digital project. Weakness: To extend broadband wireless connectivity to new locations and over longer distances. 3. IP Star Strength: can access from everywhere. Low Noise Block (LNB) removes the noise and convert into digital signal. Weakness: Weak signal is limited power available in orbit satellites tend to broadcast on very lower power. Extremely high cost between$100 to$ 600 million to build . 4. PSIN (dial up) As the distance between terminals increases ,it soon becomes impractical to use dedicated cabling to carry data .Fortunately ,a very extensive communications network is already in existence :the public telephone network. Strengths The world’s largest communications network is the public telephone system. When computers use this network to communicate with each other it is referred to as dial-up networking (DUP). Weakness Must wait for certain time to convert digital to analog and transmit ion is not binary but analog, so signal may weakness at certain point need exchange to pump up. 5. ISDN (digital Line) ISDN service offers high-speed access to the ,public telephone system. ISDN service requires digital modems. Strengths The fastest, most expensive ISDN service is broadband ISDN. This level of service provides extremely high transfer rates (up to 622Mbps) over coaxial or fiber-optic cabling. Weakness Two wire system is expended in four wire system thought a network terminator. Task-3(3) 5 Networking capabilities of Windows XP -Wireless Firewall -Offline Offer Remote Assistance Remote Desktop Task 4 Task 4(i) 10 Windows XP system files HAL.DLL: Hardware abstraction layer (HAL) driver that holds information specific to the CPU that the OS is running on. SMSS.EXE: A file that contains information to carry out pre -start functions such as running in boot time version of CHKDSK called AUTOCHTC. SMSS.EXE: A file that contains information to carry out pre -start functions such as running in boot time version of CHKDSK called AUTOCHTC. BOOT.INI: A text file that contains the boot loader menu that is displayed on the startup screen. BOOT SECT.DOS: Responsible for loading the operating system other than the default operating Ntoskrnl.exe: Executive and kernel, executive and kernel with support for Physical Address. Ntkrnlpa.exe: Extension (PAE), which allows addressing of more than 4 gigabytes(GB) of physical memory. User32.dll: Core Win32 subsystem DLLs. Test -4 (ii) ( Fig. 1 ) Microsoft Management Console Some of the windows 2000/XP management consoles are not loaded when the operating system is installed. However, they are available for installation from the Windows2000/XP CDs. These consoles are referred to as snap-ins. In addition to using the Control Panel, you can access all the installed MMCs by typing selecting Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, or by tying MMC in the Start, Run dialog box. The MMC is a flexible tool that enables you to add snap-in tools(utilities) to create custom management consoles that can be saved and used at any time .Extended discussions of these tools are presented throughout the remainder of the text as they apply to managing and troubleshooting the operating system. ( Fig. 2 ) Event Viewer System events include items such as successful and failed Windows computer startups ,as well as successful loading of device drivers. Likewise, application events include information about how the system’s applications are performing. Not all Windows applications generate events that the Event Viewer will log. Security events are produced by user actions such as logons and logoffs, file and folder accesses, and creation of new Active Directory accounts. Task Manager To start Task Manager, take any of the following actions: Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, and then click Task Manager. Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC. Right-click an empty area of the taskbar, and then click Task Manager. Task-4(iii) Interactively install a Plug and Play device You can use this procedure to install a device that is not currently plugged into the computer, and for which a device driver is not currently staged in the driver store. If a device driver is staged in the driver store, then it is installed with no interaction required by the user, and the Found New Hardware dialog box does not appear. To install a Plug and Play device interactively when you plug it in Plug the new device into the computer. In the Found New Hardware dialog box, select one of the following: Locate and install driver software. Selecting this option begins the installation process. For more information, see Additional considerations in this topic. Ask me again later. The device is not installed and no configuration change is made to your computer. If the device is still plugged in the next time you log on to the computer, then this dialog box appears again. Dont show this message again for this device. Selecting this option configures the Plug and Play service to not install the driver for this device, and does not make the device functional. To complete the installation of the device driver, you must detach the device and reattach it. Task 5 BIOS is a collection of programmes written in low-level language (mostly assembly language) and it has to carry out the functions necessary for computing the boot during the period between point of the computer power to the starting point of the operation system. There are many thousands of individual error messages; some are more common than others because there are only a few different BIOS companies that are used by the majority of PCs out there today. However, since the exact wording of an error message can be changed by the manufacturer of each system or motherboard, there are a lot of variations. The common problem of error codes and message from the boot sequence are CMOS battery failed CMOS checksum error – Default lobed . Task-5(ii) The following utilities will help you troubleshoot the most common causes of system problem 1. Microsoft Management Console 2. Disk Defragmenter 3. Control Panel 1. Microsoft Management Console Microsoft Management Console (MMC) hosts administrative tools that you can use to administer networks, computers, services, and other system components. For help with specific tasks. For general background information. For information about accessibility features. For problem-solving instructions. 2. Disk Defragmenter Disk Defragmenter is a system utility for analyzing local volumes and locating and consolidating fragmented files and folders. You can also defragment disks from a command line using the defrag command. Before defragmenting files or folders. For tips about using Disk Defragmenter. For help with specific tasks. For general background information.
